DM360 Update 10 of 360 - New York Knicks (#10) - LINK

New York, NY (DM360) -- In the 2009 NBA Draft, Knicks fans were disappointed when they saw G Stephen Curry be drafted seventh overall by the Golden State Warriors, just one pick before the New York Knicks.

In his first trip to Madison Square Garden, Curry disappointed the Knicks fans even more.

Curry led the Warriors with 21 points, five assists, and four steals as Golden State joined the ever-popular list of teams to beat New York this season with a 94-79 at the Garden.

"It was exciting, my first game in the NBA here in New York." said Curry. "They have great fans, and the atmosphere is great here too. It was a great experience, but I'm glad I helped my team get the win tonight."

Of course, Curry was not a lot in his efforts of deflating the Knicks. Corey Maggette and Monta Ellis came alive in the second half to held seal the deal as the two combined to score 21 of their 33 points in the last two quarters.

New York (1-9) continues to suffer from handling the ball - or lack thereof. The Knicks committed 13 turnovers in the loss compared to just 12 assists.

The game took a slow start, as neither team led by more than three points and the Knicks took a 19-18 lead after the first quarter.

Golden State (4-4) pulled away in the second quarter, starting it on a 15-3 run. Despite Curry getting into foul trouble, the Warriors kept the pressure up by pounding the ball inside to Andris Biedrins, as they took a 44-34 lead at halftime.

Biedrins finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds for Golden State.

David Lee did all he could to keep the Knicks in the game in the third quarter. Lee scored the team's first six points of the second half, and scored 10 of his 16 points in the third.

Lee finished with a double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds in the loss.

But for every plan New York had, Golden State found a way to foil it and keep their lead intact. After watching their lead fall to just four points, the Warriors stole the momentum as Anthony Randolph blocked a lay-up attempt by Wilson Chandler and started a fast break which ended in a dunk by Maggette.

"We played better than we did most nights." said Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni. "But we're still not where we need to be. It's still a long way to get this season, but that's no excuse for the slow start we've had."

Golden State and New York came alive in the fourth quarter, combining to score 65 points. Maggette led the way with 10 of his 20 points in the final quarter, helping to seal the deal for the Warriors.

With the loss, the Knicks have lost all three games in their home stand, and fall to 1-6 in Madison Sqaure Garden this season. New York will have four days of rest before returning to the floor for a two-game road trip starting in Indiana. The Pacers and Knicks met earlier this season, a game in which Indiana won handily 109-72.

New York plays five of their next six games of the road.

DM360 Update 16 of 360 - New York Knicks (#16) - LINK

Indianapolis, IN (DM360) -- Entering their game against the New York Knicks, the Indiana Pacers led the league in points per contest (112.5), field goal percentage (.491), three point percentage (.465), and free throw percentage (.813). Not to mention two weeks ago, the Pacers soundly smacked the snot of the Knicks, winning 109-72 in Madison Square Garden. This time, the game was at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The Knicks made sure it was a completely different kind of game.

Facing deficits as large as 21 points, the Knicks fought all the way to take a 107-106 lead with 21 seconds left in the game. Danny Granger responded with a floater with seven seconds remaining giving the lead back to Indiana, but also giving the Knicks a chance to end their six game losing streak.

Wilson Chandler drove to the line and attempted a shot contested by Roy Hibbert - a contest that received a questionable no call - only to have the ball clank off the rim and into the hands of a Pacer, leaving the Knicks with a 110-107 defeat and wondering how they let the win slip away.

"There should have been a call." said Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni. "The refs chose to 'let them play' because they were too scared to make a decision. It was clearly a foul, and Wilson should have been going to the free throw line."

Granger - the NBA's leading scorer - had just 19 points, but did enough to give Indiana the win, improving their record to 6-3 on the season. Granger shot 9-of-21 from the floor, facing a strong defensive matchup in Wilson Chandler.

"I'm glad we were able to come away with the win." Granger said. "We blew a huge lead and then almost handed the game, which is a shame considering how well we were playing. As the season goes, you learn. We learned today that we shouldn't let up on anyone ever."

New York (1-10) received a Herculean-effort from Al Harrington, who had been questioned on his level of play in recent games. Harrington shot 14-of-24 from the floor, finishing with a game-high 34 points with 10 rebounds to go along with it. Harrington scored 22 of those points in the second half, and tied the game at 101 with 1:51 left.

The Pacers built up their lead in the second quarter, where they outscored New York 32-16. But the Knicks turned around and scored 71 points in the second half to claw their way back into the game.

David Lee, Wilson Chandler, and Larry Hughes each had 15 points for New York, who are now losers of seven straight contests. Lee added 11 rebounds to earn another double-double this season.

The Indiana Pacers had a strong supporting cast, a testament of their league leading shooting percentages. Troy Murphy had 17 points and 10 rebounds, T.J. Ford dropped 18 points and nine assists, Dhantay Jones added 10 points, and Mike Dunleavy and Brandon Rush had 13 points and 14 points off the bench, respectively.

Now the first team with double-digit losses this season, the Knicks will take a couple days off before heading to East Rutherford to take on the New Jersey Nets, a team that has been hot of late. After starting 1-5, the Nets have improved to 6-6 on the season and are currently tied for second place in the Atlantic Division.

DM360 Update 17 of 360 - New York Yankees (#1) - LINK

Yankees Set For Title Defense

The fans have longed stopped cheering, the confetti longed clean up off the floor of the stadium. It's been nearly five months since the New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game Six of the 2009 World Series, winning the organization's 27th championship. With weather warming up and the snow melting away, it can only mean that baseball season is upon us again.

With Opening Day creeping closer, the Yankees are making their last minute check-ups on their organization, getting themselves primed and ready to defend their world championship. With some players saying their farewells to the team and some more making their debuts, the Yankees still have a competitive team expected to be a likely playoff team; if not a back-to-back champions.

The Yankees lineup welcomes newcomer Curtis Granderson, who came over in a three team trade with the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks that saw the departure of P Ian Kennedy, OF Austin Jackson, and P Phil Coke. Granderson hit .249 last season with 30 home runs and 71 RBI's with Detroit last season, and will look to fill the holes left by Johnny Damon; who coincidentally signed with Detroit.

Derek Jeter will bat lead-off this season, his 15th as the Yankees shortstop. Nick Johnson will take the designated hitter role and bat behind Jeter. 1B Mark Teixeira, 3B Alex Rodriguez, and 2B Robinson Cano round out the infield, and will bat third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.

Rounding out the lineup are C Jorge Posada, CF Curtis Granderson, RF Nick Swisher, and LF Brett Gardner.

C Francisco Cervelli, IF Ramiro Pena, OF Marcus Thames and OF Randy Winn made the bench this season; and manager Joe Giradi said he has plans to use these players a lot more this season.

The pitching staff had a little more uncertainty that the guys with the bat for New York. While C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettitte, and Javier Vazquez all were named starters, the fifth starter took nearly all of Spring Training to determine. Phil Hughes earned the starting position over Joba Chamberlain, who will pitch in the bullpen as the set-up role for Mariano Rivera.

Rounding out the rest of the bullpen is Damaso Marte, Sergio Mitre, David Robertson, Alfredo Aceves, and Chan-Ho Park.

With their roster set, New York will get their season underway in Fenway Park with a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox. C.C. Sabathia and Josh Beckett are expected to take the mound for their respective teams on Opening Night.
